Automotive History Coming Alive in Chisholm

The scenic grounds of the Minnesota Discovery Center, known for bringing history to life, took their mission a step further Sunday by hosting the 15th annual Iron Man Car Show. The event featured more than 60 cars set up across the Discovery Center grounds, turning the museum into a summer walk through decades of automotive history.
The Squires Car Club in Hibbing volunteered this year, as they have over the past several years, to provide volunteer effort and expertise to help the Discovery Center put together the unique experience. Car owners from as far away as Floodwood and Deer River made the trip to Chisholm to show off their pride and joys to the public.

Larry Dixon with the Squires Club explained how the show moved to Sunday after a rainout last year moved the show to Sunday and how the Sunday date boosted attendance due to less competition from area festivals. When asked about the unusual style of the Iron Man Car Show, Dixon said that he loves the format. “Where else can you bring an old car and become part of an actual museum?” Dixon went on to say that the Discovery Center is an ideal place to hold the show because of the taconite mined in the region: “Most of the cars come from here anyway”.
The Squires Club is already taking lessons from this year’s show to tweak this and tweak that to make next year’s event even better.
Strolling through the shaded lawns of the Discovery Center, looking at cars and chatting with owners, is very different from most car show formats. “You won’t find one like this anywhere else in Minnesota.”
