Mesabi Musical Theater Brings the Comedy Classic to Life Starting July 23.

Mesabi Musical Theater and Hibbing Community Education bring Hello, Dolly to the historic Hibbing High School auditorium starting tonight Thursday, July 23 at 7:00 with additional performences Friday July 24 and 7:00 and July 26 at 2:00. The iconic musical includes a cast of 30 local performers and tells the stor of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a spirited matchmaker, as she sets her sights on marrying the wealthy Horace Vandergelder. Comedic chaos ensures that audiences enjoy a heartwarming and hilarious musical adventure.

Hello, Dolly premiered on Broadway in 1964 and ran for 2,844 performances, making it, at the time, the longest-running Broadway musical in History. Unforgettable songs include “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” Ribbons Down My Back,” Before the Parade Passes By,” “Hello, Dolly,” Elegance”, and “It Only Takes a Moment”

Hello, Dolly! Stars Suzanne Dustrude Star of Hibbing as Dolly Gallagher Levi. Dustrude Starr toured with the USO song and dance troupe after college and sang with local music and comedy trio Company B for 20 years. Currently in her first MMT production, Starr said, “Dolly is an iconic character best played with some years under your belt, as the original character was written, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to bring her to life.

Leighton Helander and Coleman Lukasavitz rehearse a scene from the Mesabi Musical Theater’s production of Hello, Dolly being staged at the Hibbing High School Auditorium.

James Conger of Buhl portrays Horace Vandergelder, A wealthy, gruff, “half millionaire” feed store merchant whose carefully ordered life is turned upside down by the irrepressible Dolly Gallagher Levi. After a more than 29-year hiatus while serving in the Air Force, Conger returned to the stage last summer in MMT’s production of Oklahoma!

Hello, Dolly! is directed by Susan Nelson of Hibbing, who also serves as MMT’s artistic director. Nelson has been directing theater for over 30 years and holds a Master of Arts in Theatre from Regent University.

Hello, Dolly! is made possible by a grant from the General Endowment Fund of Hibbing Foundation. Tickets are available at the door or at mesabimusicaltheatre.com
