Introducing a New Sports Partnership Program
I’ve always approached sports photography from the point of view of a storyteller. That images from a game need to capture the feelings, the emotions, the little details, the environment, and yes, the action of a sporting event. So often, sports photography in publications is treated as an easy way to add a little color to an otherwise long, drawn-out collection of words.
I stopped by the last Hibbing High School girls soccer game with that in mind. The setting sun, the excitement of the players, the emotions from the coaching staff, even the fans. Sometimes that idea is easier said than done. There are games where, honestly, almost nothing happens: lackluster play and a fan section checking their watches to see when they can go home, but thankfully that’s rare and not at all how it was when the Bluejackets girls took on North Branch.
A goal from Abigail Farnsworth with less than a minute off the clock really set the tone, and then it was game on!. I really believe in the power of still images to bring the reader to an event, and I’m looking forward to continuing to bring these memories, feelings, and history to the Range!
In light of that, Full Range Media decided to be the first sponsor in what I hope will be an exciting community effort partnering with local booster clubs and businesses to bring the Range- a world of our great high school athletics. The idea is to cover a varsity game like it’s the state championship and make all the images full resolution and completely free to download, print, and share, all courtesy of the sponsoring business, school, or booster club.
