Winning 50-6 for Wolverines Second Season Victory

For a game that was rescheduled three hours early because of the looming threat of lightning, it was the Rock Ridge Wolverines who brought the thunder Friday, rolling over St.Cloud Apollo 50-6 in Virginia.
Moments after a moving honor guard ceremony remembering the victims of the September 11 attacks on the 25th anniversary of the events, the rain started to fall, cooling off the crowd but not putting a damper on the Wolverines on the field, who took their opening possession to the house and set the tone for the day.

While Rock Ridge’s defense came out to play and shut down St. Cloud Apollo, the offense stole the show.
A running clinic put on by senior Engel Beckett, breaking away for big chunks of real estate and multiple touchdowns. Top-notch quarterback play by Jacob Coombe and an impressive mix of both offense and defense from John Westby set the stage for what turned into a well-needed laugher for the Wolverines, who have found both yards and wins elusive for the past couple of seasons.
With an impressive 34-6 halftime lead and a couple of quick third-quarter touchdowns, head coach Brandon Borich gave his younger athletes playing time, adding valuable game experience for future starters. The final score of 50-6 leaves the Wolverines with a perfect 2-0 record on the young season, with Pine City in the spotlight for their next challenge.

That game will be a home game on Friday, September 18, starting at 7:00. It’s also designated “Youth Night” at Raduenz Field.
