Special Athletes and Community Coming Together

The Road Runners Special Olympics Team and the Virginia Police and Fire Departments faced off for two action-packed games and a day of incredible community, great competition, teamwork, and smiles on Sunday at Raduenz Field on the Rock Ridge High School campus.

The teams played a pair of flag football scrimmages that doubled as a fundraiser, which saw volunteer firefighters and law enforcement officers show their skills against an enthusiastic team of Special Olympics athletes who have been training since August.

The results were a win-win and a split decision, with the first responders taking the first game and the Road Runners bouncing back to win the nightcap.

Beyond the action on the field, the event was heavily supported by local community members who came out to cheer and show support, and both the Virginia Police and Fire Departments expressed how grateful they were for the opportunity to play alongside the Road Runners, emphasizing that the day was all about community spirit, inclusion, and unforgettable memories.
