Bluestreaks top Cromwell in Three Sets

It looked like the number one seed Chisholm Bluestreaks were going to be in for an easy night as they faced Cromwell in Friday night’s Section 7A semifinal game after they opened strong and rolled over Cromwell 25-10 in the first set.

Perhaps feeling a bit overconfident, the team came out in the second set a little flat, letting the Cardinals trade points and go on a couple of mini runs until they started climbing ahead 15-12 when Head Coach Pam Pioske called a time-out to refocus the team. The pep talk worked when the Bluestreaks came out again and went on a 9-0 run, recapturing the magic of their season and closing it out 25-21.

Chisholm came out in the third, taking the early lead and never giving it back, finishing the night with a three-set win to advance to face Ely in Wednesday night’s Section 7A final to be played in Virginia.

When asked about what advice Head Coach Pam Pioske gave her team during the timeout while down 15-12, Pioske explained, “They went into the first set with a lot of heart and a lot of energy, and I could just see it when they stepped on the court, and they were just on fire. And then in the second set, I think because we dominated so much, they let that go.

So I told them, you let that guard down; you’re not even pushing as hard, and our main hitter was making a lot of mistakes. And when she makes a lot of mistakes, we tend to, you know, fall apart a little bit, and that was happening. I said that you’re analyzing things too much. You’re overthinking, and that’s why you’re making the errors. Just go out there, get your feet there, and hit the ball. And since then, she is on fire again. I think that kind of really changed the momentum of that second set.”
