Heavy Wildfire Smoke Moves Concert

To say that singer/songwriter and Virginia native Preston Gunderson was on fire Wednesday night as the headliner of the Eveleth Music in the Park Concert takes on a double meaning when the outdoor music event had to be moved into the Eveleth Auditorium due to heavy smoke caused by numerous wildfires, creating unsafe breathing conditions outdoors.

The smoke blanketed the region in a heavy yellow fog, but as Eveleth Mayor Adam Roen said, “the show must go on,” so instruments, food vendors, and audience members, complete with lawn chairs, made their way to the city’s refurbished performance hall.

Audience members listen to Virginia native Preston Gunderson perform on the Eveleth Auditorium stage Wednesday night for the indoor version of the Eveleth Music in the Park Concert.

The next outdoor Music in the Park event will be on August 19, featuring Thor Leseman and the Wregulars. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs…outdoors or inside.
