Candidates from School Board to Governor Met the Public

It’s been said that all politics is local, and nowhere was that more evident than Thursday evening’s Meet the Candidates Night sponsored by the Laurentian Chamber of Commerce and held at the Iron Trail Motor’s Event Center in Virginia.

Two dozen candidates running for political offices ranging from local school board to Minnesota Secretary of State set up tables offering campaign information as well as candy, popcorn, and even pizza for voters to snack on as they were able to talk with the candidates one-on-one. Voters could ask questions about policy ideas, background, experience, and essentially anything else they were curious about.

The nonpartisan event was free and open to the public, and unlike traditional candidate forums, the chamber deliberately set Thursday night’s event to be less formal and set in an open setting that invited one-on-one communication.

Early voting is already underway in Minnesota, and election day is November third.
